Verticalsim releases St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport (KPIE) for MSFS

Verticalsim has expanded its portfolio of airport sceneries for Microsoft Flight Simulator with the addition of St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport (KPIE), located on Florida’s West Coast. This medium-sized airport serves as a strategic hub in the region, accommodating a variety of aviation activities.

Verticalsim has carved a niche with their focus on regional and smaller airports that are often overlooked by larger developers. KPIE is the latest in a product line that includes other airports such as Tampa, Ontario, or Syracuse.

KPIE is a significant base for Allegiant Airlines, featuring more than 60 routes that connect to other U.S. airports, many of which have been previously developed by Verticalsim. The airport is also home to a U.S. Coast Guard station and includes extensive facilities for general aviation and business jet operations, with two mainstream FBOs.

Typically from Verticalsim, KPIE incorporates a series of features that should ensure a good balance between high fidelity and performance. For example, the airport terminal has been modeled with a simplified interior to optimize performance without compromising detail.

For realism, the scenery features custom static models of Coast Guard C130s and Jayhawks, as well as high-resolution textures for airport buildings, complete with PBR materials. The airport layout is also been recreated to be up to date as of 2024, with accurate taxiway signage, obstruction lights, and guard lights.
