RAF Mildenhall, home of the USAF 100th Air Refueling Wing, is now available for Microsoft Flight Simulator

Microsoft Flight Simulator simmers and military aviation enthusiasts are in for a treat with IM Scenery’s latest project: EGUN – RAF Mildenhall. It’s a highly detailed rendition of the important airbase that hosts the 100th Air Refueling Wing of the United States Air Force.

Founded by Ian McCartney, IM Scenery specializes in the detailed recreation of military airbases throughout the United Kingdom. McCartney, whose personal history is deeply intertwined with military aviation, began his journey into scenery design in 2005.

This pursuit started as a tribute to his father, a 20-year veteran of the RAF and a contractor for a decade thereafter, who spent much of his career at Coningsby working predominantly on Tornados. Following his father’s passing, McCartney took to scenery design, inspired by his lifelong passion for flight simulators and his father’s legacy.

Prior to embracing Microsoft Flight Simulator’s platform with the release of MSFS, McCartney contributed to creating military freeware scenery for earlier simulation programs like FS9, FSX, and P3D, much of which remains available through the MAIW freeware group website.

Additionally, he collaborated with Steve Legg and John Young in a small group known as ACG, which focused on RAF airfields, creating the roots of his work today for Microsoft Flight Simulator, which has already resulted in the development of EGUL Lakenheath Air Base, EGXC Coningsby Air Base, EGXP Scampton Air Base, and now with EGUN, his latest scenery.

RAF Mildenhall, located in Suffolk, England, holds a significant place in both British and American military history. It serves as a key site for the United States Air Force in Europe, hosting units crucial for refueling, reconnaissance, and special operations.

The new scenery package promises to bring RAF Mildenhall to life with meticulous attention to detail. From the official product images, it’s clear that IM Scenery has attempted to capture the essence of the airbase with high-fidelity graphics, accurate architectural reproductions, and very realistic static aircraft appropriate to the scene.
