Burning Blue Design releases Guy Ritchie’s Compton Abbas Airfield for MSFS

Renowned for its impressive collection of British airfields for Microsoft Flight Simulator, Burning Blue Design has released yet another charming location: Compton Abbas Airfield. Located in the heart of Dorset, UK, this airfield sits majestically on a large hill overlooking the quaint town of Shaftesbury. Offering some of the country’s most dramatic views, Compton Abbas Airfield provides its visitors with exceptional and often challenging VFR flying amid the rolling hills and valleys of the English South-West.

Compton Abbas Airfield is notable for a few distinct reasons. Not only is it a popular airfield that hosts numerous flying schools, frequent fly-ins, and a very fine restaurant, but it also made the headlines last year when it became known that film director Guy Ritchie had acquired the airfield.

With a well-established reputation for authenticity, Burning Blue Design promises to have faithfully recreated Compton Abbas Airfield for MSFS. They undertook on-site visits to ensure the highest levels of accuracy in their digital rendition. The result is an immersive and realistic airfield simulation that gives users a chance to experience the thrill of navigating through one of the most picturesque landscapes in the UK.

Compton Abbas for MSFS boasts over 80 custom 3D objects, each with full PBR textures. It’s based on the May 2023 layout following the grand re-opening after significant building works and features up-to-date buildings, runway, taxiways, and custom taxi signs.

At night, the airfield comes to life with full custom lighting, dynamic working runway designator signs, and animated hangar doors that close after dusk. Adding to the bustling atmosphere are animated spectators and real-life static aircraft typically seen at the airfield, including:

  • Boeing Stearman PT-17 Model 75 N2S-4 Kaydet (14) (G-ISDN)
  • De Havilland DH.82 Tiger Moth (G-ANKZ)
  • De Havilland Chipmunk (G-BWNK)
  • De Havilland Chipmunk (G-ULAS)
  • Supermarine Spitfire Mk. T IX, 2 seat, NH341, ‘Elizabeth’ (G-CICK)
  • North America T-6G Harvard, ‘Carly’ (G-BGHU)
