Van Nuys Airport, the busiest GA airport in the world, is coming to MSFS by the hands of Orbx

Orbx has announced today a new airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator. This time, we’re looking at Van Nuys Airport (KVNY), in California, often regarded as the largest and busiest general aviation airport in the world.

KVNY has a rich history that goes back to the 1920’s, having later served as a military base during World War II. Nowadays, Van Nuys is exclusively dedicated to non-commercial flights, averaging over 230.000 aircraft movements per year. It has two runways, and the main one is even equipped with ILS.

Van Nuys is home to more than 200 businesses, who operate within the airfield’s premises. These include many big FBO’s, who provide services such as parking, aviation fuel, aircraft sales, flight instruction, maintenance, and more.

Orbx will soon launch this new US airport, a creation of developer Matteo Veneziani, in what is looking to be a comprehensive and very detailed recreation. The developers uses PBR textures as standard, with high-resolution artwork seen throughout the whole location.

Interesting on-location landmarks are included, like the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant, several of the major FBO’s, the Airtel Plaza Hotel, and more.

Due to its location in southern California, Van Nuys is a fantastic choice to serve as a base for your flights in the region. Be it a short hop on a Cessna 172, to a longer business flight in the CJ4, Van Nuys caters to nearly every GA pilot, and will definitely be a great addition to the sim when it comes out.

Orbx didn’t give an estimated release date. They said, however, that Van Nuys is in an “advanced stage of development“, and knowing how quickly Orbx usually launches its products after the first announcement, we believe it won’t take long for us to try this exceptional new airport.
