Start your African tour from Algiers International Airport, now available for MSFS

NetDesign, known for their previous work on Algeria’s DAAT Aguenar/Tamanrasset Airport, has recently expanded their portfolio with the addition to Microsoft Flight Simulator of the main airport in the country, Houari Boumediene International Airport (DAAG), also known as Algiers International Airport.

This release represents a comprehensive effort to replicate Algeria’s largest airport, which is located just southeast of Algiers, the country’s capital, and serves as a vital hub connecting Algeria to 81 destinations across 31 countries.

NetDesign has attempted to capture the airport’s historical and modern aspects for MSFS simmers, from its origins in the pre-independence era – when it was known as Maison Blanche Airport – to the latest terminal completed in 2019. The new terminal is designed to accommodate large aircraft, including the Airbus A380, reflecting the airport’s capability to handle up to 16 million passengers annually.

NetDesign’s rendition of DAAG is detailed, featuring over 40 custom models that span the airport’s four terminals, along with ancillary buildings, vehicles, aircraft, and other objects. This detailed approach extends to the surrounding environment, where auto-generated areas have been reworked for a seamless blend with the main terminal areas.

Notable landmarks such as Maqam Echahid (Martyrs’ Memorial), Nelson Mandela Stadium, and Djamaa el Djazaïr (the Great Mosque of Algiers) are included, enriching the visual experience of approaches and departures. Specifically, the mosque, with its 265m tall minaret – the tallest in the world – adds a very unique feature to the airport’s nearby scenery!

This scenery also introduces helicopter pads located at the mosque and stadium, available as starting positions within the simulator. This addition, alongside the high detail across the airport’s expanse, including accurately modeled tail signs on static aircraft like the Sun Air B737s near the Air Algerie maintenance hangar, gives you an idea of the level of attention and care that was put into this scenery.

It’s worth noting that the use of glass jetways in the scenery requires the installation of Aerosoft’s Paderborn/Lippstadt (EDLP), which is freely available for download.

In summary, NetDesign’s DAAG addon for Microsoft Flight Simulator delivers a detailed and authentic depiction of Algeria’s primary airport. In a region often overlooked by major developers, it’s refreshing to see smaller independent developers stepping up to enrich these lesser-known destinations with much-needed detail and realism.

NetDesing’s DAAG Algiers International Airport is available now from your usual retailers, such as Contrail and simMarket, priced at around €24.00.
