NextGen Simulations shares update on the Saab 340 and 2000 for MSFS

It’s been a while since we last received meaningful updates from NextGen Simulations, the developer behind the EMB-110 Bandeirante, who is also known to be working on the Saab 340, S2000, and the ERJ Series. But there was good news recently, as Carlos Gonzalez, the man behind NextGen Simulations, shared more details about the ongoing progress and detailed work behind his Saab 340 and 2000 projects for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

This update arrives amidst personal challenges for Gonzalez, who openly discusses battling health issues and their impact on his workflow. Despite these personal hurdles, his dedication to advancing the development of these aircraft remains steadfast.

Gonzalez reassures the flight sim community that the development of both the Saab 340 and 2000 continues unabated, countering any rumors of abandonment. “I reiterate my commitment to these projects. They’re not abandoned!” he asserts.

So, what’s the current status at NextGen? The development of the Saab 340 has seen significant progress, particularly in the refinement of its exterior model. Gonzalez notes, “I spent around half a year overhauling the relevant details from the aircraft’s exterior, such as landing gear, wheels, fuselage…and many others.”

Leveraging the advanced graphics engine of MSFS, NextGen Simulations aims to create visually stunning models of the Saab aircraft. The process involves updating the models to include additional levels of detail (LODs) and preparing the interior model for texturing.

Additionally, Gonzalez revealed plans to integrate Navigraph services into the onboard EFB for both the Saab 340 and 2000.

Gonzalez clarifies that while both Saab models are developed simultaneously, their releases will be staggered. He also addresses the projects’ compatibility with MSFS 2020 and the forthcoming 2024 sequel, ensuring users that updates for compatibility will be provided at no additional cost.

This detailed update from Carlos Gonzalez not only sheds light on the work behind the scenes at NextGen Simulations but also reaffirms the developer’s commitment to the flight sim community. The developer notes that there’s no estimated release date yet for any of these projects; however, he’s hopeful to release at least the S340 before the year’s end. A positive note to end this update!
