Parallel 42 shares more details on SimFX package for MSFS

Parallel 42 has recently announced the forthcoming launch of SimFX, a sophisticated visual effects package designed to bring new life to Microsoft Flight Simulator. Although the release date remains uncertain, pending the rollout of Sim Update 15, Parallel 42 has provided extensive details about the mod, offering simmers a preview of what to expect.

SimFX builds on Parallel 42’s established expertise in creating visual effects for flight simulation platforms such as FSX and Prepar3D. This latest venture into Microsoft Flight Simulator promises not only to elevate the simulator’s overall visual appeal but also to set the groundwork for future “Immersion Packs,” which have been hinted at previously.

The official product page for SimFX has gone live, unveiling several notable features of the add-on.

  • Dynamic Environmental Effects: SimFX introduces a variety of effects that respond in real-time to the simulator’s environmental conditions. For example, contrails are formed based on the atmosphere’s moisture content and altitude, and they evolve dynamically as weather conditions change.
  • Aircraft-Specific Effects: The addon goes beyond generic effects by introducing aircraft-specific animations like engine heat blur, which varies with the aircraft’s throttle settings, and rotor wash that reacts realistically to the interaction between helicopters and various surfaces.
  • Effects on the Ground: SimFX includes detailed interactions like tire marks and dynamic water spray when operating on wet runways.
  • Celestial Phenomena: Interestingly, SimFX will also add seasonally accurate celestial phenomena such as auroras and shooting stars.

Parallel 42 states that SimFX utilizes advanced programming and graphic rendering techniques to deliver its effects. By tapping into real-time meteorological data and syncing with the simulator’s physics engine, the addon promises to generate visually appealing effects that are contextually accurate and based on real-world data.

Besides focusing on the core effects, Parallel 42 is also committed to ensuring that simmers have a balanced experience with the tool, especially in terms of performance. SimFX will apparently be able to dynamically adjust itself to provide a good balance between effects and performance, which will certainly be welcomed by simmers on lower-end systems who may experience sudden FPS drops when effects are activated.

These details, along with additional features and aircraft compatibility, are available on the product’s official page. Pricing has been set at $25.00 USD. As for availability, it is currently pending the release of Sim Update 15, which has been delayed and continues to be under testing by the MSFS team and supporting beta testers at least until April 30th.
