The first supersonic airplane and Bill Lear’s doomed final project among the latest releases in the MSFS Marketplace
As it happens nearly every week, the Marketplace in Microsoft Flight Simulator just got a new selection of DLC for simmers to try out. We may be in the slow month of August, but third-party developers are still finding the time to finish some of their ongoing projects. This week we have two entirely different new airplanes, and they are both available for PC and Xbox!
The first one to note is the newest project from Lionheart Creations, the Lear Fan 2100. The developer grabbed what was known about Bill Lear’s final project and applied some modern amenities, like a modern glass cockpit. The end result may not be as faithful to the original as we hoped, but given the lack of reference materials, it’s still a noteworthy effort. Plus, the Lear Fan continues to look very unique and futuristic nearly 50 years after it was conceived!
The other aircraft released today is a particularly historical and famous one: the Bell X-1, the first supersonic aircraft! This rocket engine-powered American experimental plane broke the sound barrier for the first time in 1947, with legendary pilot Chuck Yeager at the command. The Bell X-1 is now available for MSFS, developed by MScenery. Honestly, it doesn’t look that great, and this developer doesn’t have the best reputation in terms of overall polish… but, at just $14.99, it may be worth the risk for absolute fans of this pioneering aircraft!
In other releases, you’ll find new liveries for the Boeing 747 and the F/A-18, new missions from Perfect Flight, and a few interesting airports from the likes of Orbx, Northern Sky Studio, and more!
