The gorgeous Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing is now out for MSFS
As promised, the Microsoft Flight Simulator team released today the Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing, a true classic from the Golden Era of Aviation. This beautiful bird is coming to MSFS by the hands of Carenado, who partnered with Asobo and Microsoft to deliver this first entrance into a new “Famous Flyers” category of airplanes.
The Staggerwing is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful and elegant airplanes ever built, a true “Cadillac of the Sky”. Its bi-plane design, with the upper wing staggered behind the lower one, provided improved visibility to the pilot and contributed to the airplane’s iconic design. The retractable landing gear, also uncommon for the time, finished the deal to create this beautifully elegant silhouette.
Carenado is obviously well-known for the quality of the visuals of nearly all of its add-ons, and the Staggerwing appears to be no exception. Judging by the trailer video that accompanies this release, we can expect a striking model that is covered by ultra-realistic PBR textures, with 11 liveries to go along with it.
The Staggerwing also comes with a beautiful cockpit with steam gauges.
The Staggerwing has replaced the Antonov An-2 as the first aircraft in the new series called “Famous Flyers”, which aims to highlight some of the world’s most notable flying machines. The An-2, while finished, has faced some licensing issues (and is possibly being affected in some way by current events in the world…), so it’s likely to be released at a later stage.
The Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing is available now for $14.99 in the MSFS Marketplace, for both PC and Xbox simmers. Grab it now and enjoy the added prestige of owning a Staggerwing!
Great looking plane – well done
