BlackBox Simulations is set to expand its successful BN2 Islander aircraft lineup for Microsoft Flight Simulator with a new, more powerful variant: the BN-2T Turbine Islander. This announcement, made earlier this summer in the official MSFS forums, is about to come to fruition, as this new aircraft is likely to be released at any moment!

The BN-2T Turbine, an evolution of the iconic Britten-Norman Islander, represents a significant step forward in BlackBox’s product line. With its turboprop engines, the new model promises improved performance and capabilities over its piston-engined predecessor.

The BN-2T release will include an interesting selection of new variants for both civilian and military simmers:

  • BN-2T-4S “Defender” in multiple configurations
  • Civilian BN-2T model with various liveries
  • AL.1 and AL.2 variants
  • ASTOR variant featuring an AEW (Airborne Early Warning) bubble nose

BlackBox Simulations believes they have developed “the best Turboprop simulation available,” drawing from their experience with the Shorts Regional Series. The aircraft will feature an accurate rendition of the Rolls Royce Allison Model 250 B17 engines, promising an authentic flying experience that spans a range of civilian and military operations.

Inside the cockpit, the BN-2T will come equipped with modern avionics such as the GTN750 GPS and the Garmin GI 275 Flight Instrument Suite, as well as fully functional circuit breakers and electrical systems, modeled to Britten-Norman specifications.

Earlier this month, BlackBox Simulations announced being approximately two weeks from release, suggesting a possible launch in late August, so it may come out at any moment. As always, we’ll keep you posted!
