Well, that was fast! After announcing earlier this month that the E-Jets Freighter version for MSFS would be available in Q2 (i.e., until the end of June), FlightSim Studio (FSS) has announced today that this expansion to their E-Jets lineup is now available.
This new release builds on the existing E170/175 and E190/195 models, offering a fresh experience for virtual pilots and cargo enthusiasts. Despite all the important advancements introduced in the lineup since the first variant became available, the Freighter version is still being launched as Early Access, meaning it’s still a work in progress, prone to bugs, and likely in need of numerous updates down the line.
Still, FSS promises that it’s already an “enjoyable” experience capable of doing full flights.
The new E-Jets Freighter variant introduces several changes tailored to cargo operations. Notable features include:
- Detailed Cargo Cabin: A custom designed cargo cabin, complete with an operational main cargo door that can be controlled via the EFB or a dedicated panel in the cabin.
- GSX Configuration: Enhanced ground operations with an included GSX configuration to streamline the cargo handling process.
- Visual and Functional Adjustments: Minor adjustments in the EFB for cargo-specific functions, while maintaining consistency with the passenger versions in terms of systems and performance.
FSS has also included a variety of liveries based on potential airline operators, adding realism despite the aircraft still being in the testing phase in the real world.
Availability and Access
The freighter variant is available at no additional cost for users who own both the E170/175 and E190/195 packages. These users can download the update via Aerosoft One or Contrail. If the freighter is not yet available for download, users can claim their free serial on the respective platforms.
For those who own only one of the E-Jets packages, there are two options:
- Purchase the other missing E-Jets package to get the freighter for free.
- Buy the freighter as a stand-alone product at a reduced price during the Early Access period.
New customers can also purchase the freighter as an entry point into the Embraer world within Microsoft Flight Simulator, though no discounts are available on other E-Jets packages if the freighter is bought separately.
Marketplace and Xbox Launch
FSS has announced plans to bring the E-Jets Freighter to the Microsoft Marketplace, making it the first E-Jet product available through this channel. The onboarding process is underway, with a localization package pending from Microsoft. Additionally, FSS aims to release the freighter on Xbox, although testing has not yet commenced.
Other Updates
Alongside the freighter release, FSS has rolled out update 0.9.29, featuring significant improvements across all E-Jets variants:
- New EICAS: The Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS) now runs entirely in WASM, aligning with the PFD and IESS systems. This migration is part of a broader effort to standardize the code base and enhance performance.
- Quality-of-Life Improvements: These include stabilized FMS speed mode during cruise, operational master caution light, and improved GSX configurations, along with several new CAS messages.
Future Developments
Looking ahead, FSS plans to migrate the MCDU to WASM, which will serve as a foundation for a new custom FMS. This complex migration will take several weeks, with a focus on minimizing errors before implementing the new FMS code.
The E-Jets team will also be taking a vacation in June, with the next update scheduled for July 16th. Meanwhile, FSS will be present at FSExpo in Las Vegas, showcasing a new project for attendees to experience firsthand. Exciting!
