Microsoft Flight Simulator’s World Update 15 is on the horizon and promises to take simmers into new flying adventures in the colder landscapes of Europe. Northern Europe and Greenland will be the regions targeted by the next World Update, enhancing the landscapes of this region, offering a range of new activities, and addressing some community complaints about World Update 5, which was dedicated to the Nordics.
Thus, World Update 15 will focus on Northern Europe, covering the Scandinavian countries of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. It will also include Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland.
Visual Improvements
As with every World Update, WU15 will introduce improved terrain across all countries, with varying resolutions. For instance, Denmark will have an impressive 40 cm resolution, while Greenland and the Faroe Islands will feature a 2 m resolution. Norway gets a 1 m resolution, and other countries like Finland and Sweden will have a 2 m resolution.
The update will introduce photogrammetry for up to ten cities, including Oslo in Norway; Visby, Malmö, and Linköping in Sweden; and Aarhus, Copenhagen, Frederikssund, Roskilde, and Odense in Denmark. A tenth city, Gothenburg, is also in the pipeline but is currently under review by the Swedish Military.
World Update 15 will also feature five hand-crafted airports: Leknes Airport (ENLK) in Norway, developed by Kjetil Garpestad (also known as WombiiActual), and Ivalo Airport (EFIV) in Finland, Akureyri International Airport (BIAR) in Iceland, Kiruna Airport (ESNQ) in Sweden, and Mo i Rana Airport (ENRA) in Norway. These four airports have been developed in collaboration with Gaya Simulations, well-known for their high-quality sceneries and continuous contributions to previous World Updates.
Additionally, the update will introduce 90 new Points of Interest, such as the Tivoli Gardens in Denmark or Trollfjord, in Norway, among many other cool locations.
Activities and Challenges
For those who enjoy structured flying experiences, the update will offer three bush trips, three discovery flights, and three landing challenges. These activities will provide a fun and engaging way to explore the newly updated regions.

World Update 15 is shaping up to be a significant milestone for Microsoft Flight Simulator, especially for those who love flying in Northern Europe. Greenland is a great new destination that will challenge simmers to visit a remote destination on our planet. Still, it would be even better if attention could be given to other somewhat ignored regions, such as South America or Africa.
