When Munich Airport switched on its new Terminal 1 pier back in April, a small corner of the virtual airport silently went out of date. sim-wings’ payware rendition of Franz Josef Strauss (EDDM) for Microsoft Flight Simulator had been showing that area as a construction site, which is what it was when the scenery’s big v2 rework arrived. With today’s free v2.5 update, that part of the airport opens for business in the sim as well.
When we covered the v2 release, it was a full rework of the original 2020 scenery, and it modelled the new terminal structure as a work in progress, since the real pier was still a way off from opening at the time. sim-wings has kept the airport current since then, including a compatibility pass late last year that brought the scenery fully in line with MSFS 2024. Version 2.5 is the point where that big construction project takes its finished shape.
The real pier behind the update
The pier, which the sim-wings changelog labels Pier 1, is a sizeable piece of infrastructure at Franz Josef Strauss. Munich Airport says the €665 million project handles non-Schengen traffic for Terminal 1, adds capacity for around six million passengers a year, and can hold up to twelve narrowbody aircraft or six widebodies at once. Regular operations began on 21 April 2026, and roughly 40 airlines, from Emirates to Qatar Airways and American, now use it for their long-haul departures. For anyone flying widebodies into EDDM, that is the stand area sim-wings has rebuilt to match.
v2.5 changes
The developer says Pier 1 now appears in its in-service state, with a modelled interior, working lighting, ground service equipment such as GPUs and air conditioning units, static crowds, and the specific safegates that the scenery’s Aerosoft VDGS system reads. The taxiway and parking line layout around the pier and stands PP 161 to 164 has been redrawn to match current charts, and there are related line adjustments over at Terminal 2 and the satellite terminal near entries S7 and S8.
Here’s the full changelog:
- Added new jetways to Pier 1
- Updated Pier 1 to reflect its new “in service” status — interior, lighting, GPUs/AC units, static people, and more
- New taxiway and parking line layout at Pier 1 and PP 161–164, matching current charts
- Adjusted taxiway lines at T2 and the satellite terminal at entries S7 and S8
- Added specific safegates at Pier 1
- Updated jetways at T1 and T2, plus new advertising
- New parking building P8
- New parking building P43
- Dismantled the DSF building; new tower added (currently in construction stage)
- Solar panels added to several parking building rooftops
- Updated railing textures at T2 and other minor enhancements
Because several of these touch ground markings and parking positions, the developer recommends a read through the full changelog before you fly, especially if you have EDDM baked into regular routes.
The update is free for existing owners and installs through the Aerosoft ONE app now. The scenery covers both MSFS 2020 and 2024 from a single purchase, and if you don’t already own it, it’s on the Aerosoft store for around €25.
