When FlightControlTools developer Fabio Merlo previewed FlightControlSpotter V2 a few weeks ago, the Fly-By Camera was one of the features that generated the most interest. Spotters and content creators in the MSFS community had been asking for more cinematic, trackable camera options for a while, and the promise of being able to follow AI traffic in real time from dynamic external viewpoints felt like an interesting idea. That update is now out, arriving as a free update for all existing users.
What’s new in V2
The headline addition is the Fly-By Live Camera, exclusive to MSFS 2024. Instead of positioning a static spotting camera and waiting for aircraft to pass through the frame, users can now actively follow either their own aircraft or nearby AI traffic from dynamic external viewpoints. According to FlightControlTools, camera zoom, distance, viewing angle, and transition intervals between positions can all be customized to maintain continuous visual tracking. The developer describes the result as a cinematic spotting experience with fluid visual continuity during live operations.
Closely tied to this is improved AI traffic integration. FlightControlSpotter V2 now significantly improves interaction with AI-generated and live traffic aircraft across the simulator environment, with enhanced tracking precision that allows stable visual contact with moving aircraft during complex airport operations and fly-in events.
Two more additions round out the update. The Spot Camera gets a refresh with quicker positioning and immediate drone controls for on-the-fly view adjustments. And on the Drone Position side, the tool now lets you save and load custom drone positions, not just aircraft coordinates. Move the drone wherever you want, retrieve the coordinates with a single click, and save that spot for future sessions.
