The developer behind FlightControlReplay has just released something quite different for Microsoft Flight Simulator. FlightControlTools launched FlightControlSpotter, a new utility for MSFS 2020 and 2024 that brings tower views and plane spotting directly into the sim.
If you’ve ever parked the drone cam at the end of a busy runway to watch AI traffic thunder by, you’ll understand the appeal. Instead of fiddling with cameras and menus, FlightControlSpotter drops everything into a neat in-sim toolbar panel.
FlightControlSpotter gives you a one-click “nearest tower” view. Hit the button and you’re instantly perched inside the control tower of the closest airport, with ICAO code and airport name on screen.
But that’s just the start:
- Spot view by ICAO: browse airports within 200 NM, pick a runway or stand, and teleport to the tower or a custom spot.
- Custom spots: save your own locations anywhere in the world—latitude, longitude, altitude, even from your avatar’s perspective—and revisit them whenever you like.
- Local storage: manage and reload your saved views directly from the panel. Nothing goes online, so it’s quick and private.
- Drone camera integration: everything is built on MSFS’s native drone cam, so you still get full freedom to zoom, pan, and float through the scenery.
- Take Plane Control: a shortcut that snaps you straight back into the cockpit with control of your aircraft.
There are several types of simmers who may be interested in this: casual flyers who just want interesting perspectives, AI traffic spotters curious about airport flows, content creators in search of cinematic angles, and even multiplayer participants keeping tabs on busy events.
FlightControlSpotter is available exclusively at SIMMARKET. An Xbox release is on the roadmap but without a timeline.
