The immersion gap in flight simulation often comes down to how a pilot interacts with their tools. With the latest update to AeroTone, SoFly is attempting to close this gap by moving the control scheme from a panel directly onto the aircraft’s physical knobs and radio frequencies.
This release also marks a change in how the product is offered to the community. By introducing “Aircraft” and “ATC” editions, the developer is acknowledging that many simmers prefer specialized tools rather than a complete audio overhaul. Some may only want the Echo19-sourced engine sounds, while others seek the regional chatter to fill the silence of long hauls. This modularity allows for a lower entry price, which places the tool in a more competitive position against specialized sound packs from other developers.
A focus on cockpit integration and regional accuracy
Beyond the pricing changes, the technical focus of version 1.1.0 addresses a long-standing request for better geographical accuracy. The new system breaks down audio regions to a country level. This means you should hear local accents and languages that match your current position, such as German voices when flying over Germany. The developer says this dynamic facility audio helps the simulation feel more grounded in reality.
One of the more practical additions is the use of the 122.800 frequency as a toggle for the ATC chatter. This allows pilots to activate or deactivate the background noise without opening a menu, which is a step toward a more cohesive cockpit experience. For those who fly on networks like VATSIM or IVAO, the system now automatically mutes when it detects an online frequency to prevent the overlap of real and recorded controllers.
The update also includes a series of stability improvements. SoFly mentions that previous issues involving memory leaks and crashes to the desktop have been resolved, and the overall file size has been reduced to help with storage management.
New standalone editions
For new customers who do not require the full suite, SoFly has introduced two separate versions:
- AeroTone: Aircraft Edition: This version includes the aircraft sounds and profiles created by Echo19, focusing on the mechanical and environmental audio of the plane itself.
- AeroTone: ATC Edition: This version focuses entirely on the ATC background chatter, regionalization, and the new radio-controlled volume features.
Existing owners of the full AeroTone package receive these updates for free and do not need to purchase the standalone editions. Looking ahead, the developer has stated that VFR ATC is the next major feature on the roadmap.
