FlyTampa has dropped a new teaser for Microsoft Flight Simulator, and this time it’s not another major airport or a long-requested update. Instead, the studio posted a cinematic poster announcing an Area 51-themed project for MSFS.
The artwork shows a flying saucer being hoisted by a crane in the Nevada desert, paired with a roadside sign for the Little A’Le’Inn. It confirms development for both PC and Xbox, and it carries branding from FlyTampa and Sierra Division.
The teaser itself is pretty straightforward, but FlyTampa has provided nothing beyond the “coming soon” tagline. No scope, no preview shots, no feature list. Just a mood piece pointing somewhere toward the desert.
The interesting part is how the community is reacting. Instead of the usual mix of questions and excitement, the comment section on FlyTampa’s post on Facebook immediately turned into a bulletin board for update requests. Users ask about fixes to older airport releases, compatibility improvements for MSFS 2024, and patches for scenery issues introduced by recent sim updates.
The Area 51 teaser didn’t generate pushback, but it also didn’t generate much curiosity. It was treated more as a reminder of what hasn’t been addressed and of the slower pace of updates across FlyTampa’s existing portfolio, with KLAS, EHAM or CYYZ cited as examples.
Area 51 itself is also an unusual idea for FlyTampa. The studio is known for highly detailed international airports, so a thematic release with deliberately stylised visuals definitely stands out from their usual work. Until the studio explains what this actually is, the reactions will continue to orbit around the unanswered questions rather than the UFO.
FlyTampa hasn’t offered further details about the project, nor has it commented on its update roadmap. We’ll have to wait for further news, stay tuned!
