Aerosoft’s rendition of Düsseldorf Airport (EDDL) is now available for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, following its debut on MSFS 2024 last month. As previously outlined in the developer’s scenery roadmap, the backport to the older platform was planned following community feedback, and as of today, it’s live via Aerosoft One.
This update means users of either version of Microsoft Flight Simulator can now enjoy the same detailed scenery. Jo Erlend Sund, Lukas Veziroglou, and the team behind the project have adapted the scenery to MSFS 2020 while preserving nearly all the features of the newer release. Both versions are bundled as one product, so there’s no need to purchase twice.
The MSFS 2020 release maintains much of the same feature set seen in the 2024 version. That includes a highly detailed model of Düsseldorf Airport with updated layouts as of April 2025, realistic night lighting, accurate terrain elevation and runway profiles, and a number of city landmarks like the Rheinturm tower and Flughafenbrücke.
Also carried over are custom jetways, animated passengers visible through terminal windows, apron vehicle traffic, and even animated ICE trains. The airport supports AI traffic with airline-coded parking stands and integrates with Aerosoft’s VDGS module, offering precise guidance systems on the stands.
Given the technical differences between simulators, Aerosoft says both versions are provided as separate installations and will continue to receive ongoing updates. The team notes that the MSFS 2020 version was made compatible “within its limitations” and that a small update is planned to resolve minor glitches found during testing.
The timing of this release is particularly noteworthy—it comes just a day before MK Studios launches its own version of Düsseldorf for both MSFS 2020 and 2024. While it’s not uncommon for developers to cover the same airport, the back-to-back release dates inevitably invite comparisons between the two…
Aerosoft’s Düsseldorf Airport is available now through Aerosoft, and the MSFS Marketplace release is also expected shortly. If you already own the MSFS 2024 version, the MSFS 2020 scenery can be downloaded for free through Aerosoft One.
