The Aeroplane Heaven DC-3 may have failed a “hopeful” release in February, but it seems the vintage airliner is not too far off the ballpark, at least judging from the developer’s latest update. Aeroplane Heaven has just confirmed today that the DC-3 is “very close to release” for Microsoft Flight Simulator, and we have a huge number of preview images and also the confirmation that the C-47 will be included in the package.
The C-47, also known as the Dakota for the RAF, is arguably one of the most famous military transport airplanes ever made. It saw widespread use by the Allies during World War II, dropping thousands of paratroopers across a large number of battlegrounds, crucially during the invasion of Normandy following D-Day.
Aeroplane Heaven hopes to bring some of these thrills to MSFS simmers very soon, with the inclusion of the C-47 with droppable paratroops. Of particular interest is the rendition of “That’s All, Brother”, the C-47 that led the huge formation of more than 800 C-47s that dropped around 13.000 US paratroopers during D-Day.
Besides the C-47, Aeroplane Heaven will also be offering a wide variety of liveries for the DC-3, which the developer previews extensively in the latest drop of images of the aircraft. Additionally, the DC-3 will be available with a few variations, with left or right passenger doors, a mixed passenger/cargo variant, or just cargo.
Judging by the preview images that we’ve got so far, particularly with today’s comprehensive selection, the Aeroplane Heaven DC-3 looks quite striking from nearly every angle, with a detailed 3D model, impressive use of PBR textures, a beautiful cabin, and much more. It definitely looks the part, and we can’t wait to finally take to the skies in this legendary airplane. Hopefully, with an authentic simulation to match the impressive visuals!
