FlyTampa deploys v3.1 patch for Las Vegas, targeting terrain & elevation glitches

Rough edges smoothed out: v3.1 addresses the anomalies plaguing the recent MSFS 2024 overhaul.

The dust had barely settled on FlyTampa’s major Las Vegas v3 release earlier this week when users began reporting a new set of visual hazards. While the update was designed to fix MSFS 2024 compatibility, it ironically introduced some severe terrain anomalies of its own. In a rapid response, the developer has rolled out a v3.1 patch to address the most glaring issues.

It is rare to see a developer issue a patch within hours of a major release, but the state of the initial v3 launch likely demanded it. Early adopters of the v3 overhaul, which promised to fix the notorious “rollercoaster” taxiways of MSFS 2024, found themselves facing new problems, including massive terrain plateaus and photogrammetry conflicts.

This swift v3.1 update shows that FlyTampa wanted to stop these issues from becoming the defining narrative of their flagship product.

The most critical line item in the new log is the fix for mesh elevation problems around the city. In the initial v3 release, the conflict between the new airport data and the surrounding photogrammetry caused unsightly spikes and plateaus, essentially terrain “cliffs” where the airport met the city.

Beyond the terrain, the update addresses photogrammetry areas, refining the exclusion zones so the custom 3D models blend better with the simulator’s streaming data.

For the airline captains, the fix for misaligned jetways is a significant quality-of-life improvement. Nothing breaks immersion quite like parking at a detailed gate only to have the jetway disconnected, and this patch realigns those mechanics to ensure your turnarounds at Harry Reid International are seamless. Finally, light source issues have been resolved, restoring the correct night-lighting ambiance that Vegas is famous for.

How to upgrade

Since FlyTampa doesn’t have any kind of installer or product manager, you will need to log in to your vendor account (FlyTampa Store, Contrail, etc.) and download the updated installer to overwrite the previous version.
