Today, June 6th, marks one of the most historic days for humanity, when Allied troops launched an unprecedented operation to liberate Europe from the clutches of Nazi Germany. Microsoft Flight Simulator is celebrating this momentous day with the latest addition to their Famous Flyer series: the Douglas C-47 Skytrain and the Waco CG-4A glider.

These two aircraft, which played a key role during the invasion of Normandy, were announced just yesterday in the latest Live Developer Stream. They pay homage to two of the most iconic aircraft from World War II, bringing history to life for flight simulation enthusiasts!

A Tribute to WWII Aviation

The Douglas C-47D Skytrain, a military variant of the venerable DC-3 airliner, is renowned for its pivotal role in major WWII operations, including the D-Day invasion. Its versatility and reliability made it a workhorse for troop transport, cargo missions, and paratrooper drops.

Complementing the Skytrain is the Waco CG-4A glider, an unpowered aircraft used extensively for silent troop and cargo transport. Together, these aircraft played a crucial role in the success of Allied operations.

Both aircraft have been developer for MSFS by Aeroplane Heaven, who also made the DC-3.

In-Sim Features

This new addon brings detailed, meticulously crafted models of both the C-47D and CG-4A to Microsoft Flight Simulator. Simmers can experience:

  • Authentic Flight Dynamics: Realistic handling and performance characteristics true to the original aircraft.
  • Historical Accuracy: Detailed interiors and exteriors, faithfully recreated from historical data and photographs.
  • Glider Towing System: A simulation of the glider-tow operations, showcasing the integral partnership between the C-47D and CG-4A during missions.

Priced at $14.99 via the in-sim Marketplace, the Famous Flyer 9 pack offers excellent value for aviation history buffs and simulation enthusiasts.
