For a helicopter that’s been available for free since 2021, the UH-60M from Delta Simulations has quietly built one of the most loyal fanbases in the MSFS rotorcraft community. And if the trailer the team published on March 30th is anything to go by, the version that’s coming “soon” is barely recognisable compared to what’s been there before.
The lead developer describes it as “the culmination of over two years of work,” and the trailer makes a strong case for that claim.
What Delta Simulations is calling the “updated UH-60M family” is shown flying across a variety of environments throughout the trailer, from desert canyon runs to rooftop helipad departures in an urban setting.
In the trailer we can see the startup sequence from cold and dark, walking through the overhead panel, fuel pumps, de-icing, and lighting, before bringing four large Multi-Function Displays to life. Those screens show engine instruments, system status, and a moving map with topographical data, a significant step up from earlier iterations of this freeware project.
It’s worth keeping this in context. The MSFS Black Hawk space has gotten notably more crowded since Delta Simulations first launched. Miltech Simulations released their MH-60 package last July at $37.99, a feature-rich payware product with mission systems, validated flight dynamics, and multi-role variants. Miltech also has a UH-60 in the works, planned as a separate paid release.
Against that backdrop, Delta Simulations is doing something different. This is an open-source, community-driven project, distributed freely via their GitHub repository and developed by volunteers.
No firm release date has been announced. Worth keeping an eye on!
