The journey that began with the perilous approach into Lukla has finally reached its peak. Aerosoft and Limesim have released the third volume of their Mount Everest Airport series, and this expansion shifts the focus from the busy commercial hubs of the region to the absolute roof of the world. While the previous releases established the logistical backbone of the Himalayas, this latest scenery pushes pilots into territory where thin air and unpredictable weather become the primary adversaries.
This release represents a distinct change in operational focus for the series. The scenery includes Syangboche, which sits at a staggering elevation of 3,780 meters (12,402 feet). This airstrip acts as the final frontier for fixed-wing aircraft, and the developer notes that it is the last landing strip available before the terrain rises to meet the summit. Simmers familiar with the region will know that Syangboche is exposed to some of the most capricious weather conditions on the planet, often resulting in heavy winds and sudden fog that can obscure the approach.
Beyond the airstrip, the scenery is clearly built with rotary-wing pilots in mind. Once you leave the runway at Syangboche, helicopters become the only viable mode of transport. The package covers the route from the scenic tourist town of Namche Bazaar all the way up to the Everest Basecamp. Aerosoft states that they have utilized extremely high-resolution data for the Khumbu Glacier and the famous Khumbu Icefalls.
The attention to the “living world” aspect seems to be a priority here as well. The trailer released alongside the product highlights a specific detail that brings the scale of the mountain into perspective: animated climbers making their way up the slopes. Seeing these figures on the ground serves as a stark reminder of the massive environment surrounding your aircraft. The developers have also populated the valleys with villages and hanging bridges to ensure the visual fidelity remains high even during low-level flights.
For those who have been following this project, Volume 3 connects directly with the previous releases. The series started with the well-known Lukla airport and continued with Phaplu in Volume 2. This third addition effectively completes the ecosystem, allowing simmers to replicate the full logistical chain from the lower valleys up to the rescue missions and cargo runs at the base camps.
The product is available now through the Aerosoft store for just under €15.
