A few weeks ago, part of the FSimStudios team embarked on a research expedition to survey airports. What started as a routine trip turned into an unexpected adventure when bad weather left them stranded in Nuuk (Greenland) for several days. But instead of waiting idly, they turned the experience into something valuable for the flight simulation community—a detailed rendition of Nuuk Airport (BGGH), based on an extensive in-person survey conducted by the developer.
This latest release offers the most up-to-date version of Nuuk Airport, reflecting its major transformation that took place in late November 2024, when the airport officially opened its new 2,200m runway and modern terminal.
Now serving as a hub for Air Greenland’s A330neo and Dash 8 fleet, Nuuk has evolved into a true international gateway, with scheduled flights connecting it to Canada, Iceland, and Denmark. Even more exciting, direct flights from Newark and additional European destinations are expected to launch by summer 2025.
FSimStudios’ rendition of Nuuk Airport is a detailed, realistic recreation that brings this newly expanded airport to life with:
- The brand-new international terminal, fully modeled with a detailed interior and exterior, accurate signage, and lighting.
- Sharp texturing and high-poly modeling for all major airport buildings, including Air Greenland’s headquarters, hangars, and the new control tower.
- Hand-crafted terrain around the airport, ensuring the most recent changes to the landscape are accurately represented.
- Runway lighting and navigation aids modeled according to the latest charts.
- Several points of interest (POIs) in Nuuk, such as Nuuk Center (the city’s tallest building), HHE Hotel, Brugseni Shopping Mall, Nuuk Cultural Center, Nuuk Stadium, and even the nearby Nuuk Prison.
