There’s no shortage of map tools and add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator, offering a wide range of geographical situational awareness, flight planning capabilities, and more. When MSFS 2020 was first released, the options were more limited, especially for simple and straightforward tools. This led to the creation of several interesting add-ons aimed at providing better functionality, particularly for pilots flying VFR, who often needed an improved alternative to the built-in VFR map in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
One of these tools was FSPM VFR Map, which we featured in the early days of MSFS 2020. Initially introduced as a simple yet effective moving map mod, it quickly became a favorite among simmers. Now, thanks to the efforts of developer a5tr0, this tool has been updated to work seamlessly with MSFS 2024, ensuring it remains a reliable companion for VFR navigation in the latest version of the simulator.
The original version of FSPM VFR Map provided a clear and accessible map for VFR pilots, directly integrated into the in-sim toolbar. Pilots could view their aircraft’s position and surrounding landmarks with ease, making it an excellent tool for situational awareness during casual or exploratory flights.

However, the original version, developed by Scelt, faced compatibility issues with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 due to changes in the sim’s SDK and internal systems. This is where a5tr0 stepped in.
The updated version
Recognizing the value of the original mod, a5tr0 created an updated version that works seamlessly with MSFS 2024. This update not only restores the functionality of the original but also brings it in line with the latest requirements of the simulator.
- Full Compatibility with MSFS 2024: The mod has been adjusted to align with the updated software development kit (SDK) used by MSFS 2024.
- Bug Fixes: Previous issues that arose from the original version’s incompatibility have been resolved, restoring the map’s ability to function as intended.
- Works in VR: The updated version now supports Virtual Reality, allowing pilots using VR headsets to access the moving map without any interruptions or additional steps.
- Preservation of Core Features: The simplicity and usability of the original mod remain intact, with no unnecessary complexity added. The map is still accessible through the toolbar, retaining the zoom functionality and basic navigation tools.

FSPM Panel VFR Map Fix is available for free download on a5tr0’s official page. Simmers can install it just like any other MSFS toolbar mod, dropping the folder on their Community folder for MSFS 2024.
If you’ve been missing the functionality of the FSPM VFR Map in MSFS 2024, now’s the perfect time to revisit this mod and enjoy its seamless integration into the simulator once again.
