A popular choice for aerobatic training and recreational flying, the American Champion Super Decathlon is now available for Microsoft Flight Simulator. This new add-on slipped under our radar when it launched originally in the MSFS Marketplace about a month ago, but it’s now also available on the Orbx store.
Developed by Hangar Studios 713, who previously brought us the Ryan Navion L-17B and Navion B, this version of the Super Decathlon aims to capture the essence of the original aircraft’s performance and appeal, delivering an option for MSFS simmers interested in aerobatics and bush flying.
The Super Decathlon, a two-seat, single-engine aircraft designed for aerobatic flight, stands out in Microsoft Flight Simulator as one of the few aircraft capable of advanced aerobatic maneuvers. Hangar Studios 713 has developed this airplane with various features that aim to mirror the real aircraft’s capabilities and characteristics, enabling simmers to test their skills with loops, rolls, hammerheads, and inverted flight.
Hangar Studios 713’s Super Decathlon includes two panel configurations. Simmerscan select either an analog panel, evoking a classic look and feel, or opt for a modernized glass cockpit for a bit of a more modern look and function. Both configurations offer a detailed, fully interactive cockpit environment with functioning instruments, switches, and controls.
The exterior modeling includes high-resolution textures that capture the simplicity and classic styling of the Super Decathlon, with sharp detailing on its tailwheel landing gear, wings, and empennage. Additionally, Hangar Studios 713 has incorporated multiple liveries, offering variety and personalization options that cover a mix of vibrant schemes and traditional looks.

As in the real aircraft, the Super Decathlon in MSFS is equipped to tackle short, challenging takeoffs and landings, thanks to its tailwheel gear configuration and responsive control surfaces. Its compact, nimble frame makes it ideal not only for aerobatics but also for backcountry flying and short-field operations. In MSFS, users can test its limits on rugged, off-the-grid airstrips or practice aerobatic routines over vast open areas.
The Super Decathlon from Hangar Studios 713 is available now on Orbx and via the in-sim Marketplace, priced at around $20 USD. Take a look at IslandSimPilot’s review below for a comprehensive overview of the package!
