We’re quite a bit late on this one, but better late than never, right? If you haven’t heard of it yet, FlyByWire Simulations has recently shared an extensive new video showcasing the progress of their much-anticipated Airbus A380X project for Microsoft Flight Simulator. This detailed presentation was part of FlightSimExpo 2024 and offers a comprehensive look at the A380X’s capabilities and features.
The showcased video features a complete flight from San Francisco to Las Vegas, starting from a cold and dark cockpit setup and progressing through taxi, takeoff, cruising, landing, and taxi to the gate. The demonstration highlights the detail and realism that FlyByWire is incorporating into the A380X, which is set to be released as freeware once it’s completed.

Key features demonstrated in the video include:
- EFB: The EFB controls ground vehicles, failure settings, checklists, and other aircraft operations.
- Cockpit and System Details: The video showcases the intricate details of the cockpit, including the overhead panel, center pedestal, and the MCDU.
- Interactive Displays: Various system displays such as electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and pressurization systems are shown as fully interactive.
- Exterior and Interior Modeling: The A380X features highly detailed textures and models, which are seen in great detail in the video.
As we’ve learned before, Boris Audio Works is working on the A380X’s sound design. The video includes audio elements such as the distinct startup sound of the APU, the whir of motors, and the various alerts and notifications that contribute to an immersive experience.
At more than 44 minutes long, the video provides a fascinating insight into the current status of the project and raises hopes that it won’t take several more years to see the light of day. While the exact release date remains uncertain, it’s clear that the project has advanced significantly in recent months. However, this is a very complex project, and FlyByWire will surely aim for a polished product before putting it out there.
It’s worth noting that A380 enthusiasts have more to look forward to than just FlyByWire’s upcoming freeware rendition, as iniBuilds is also known to be working on their own A380 for Microsoft Flight Simulator. That one won’t be freeware, but it’s definitely worth keeping track of!
As always, we’ll continue to bring you the latest news on this project. Stay tuned!
