Orbx is returning to major airport and landmark pack releases for Microsoft Flight Simulator. After a series of smaller releases, Orbx has announced the upcoming arrival of two new addons for MSFS, both centered around the city of Detroit, United States.

These include a detailed rendition of KDTW Detroit Metropolitan Airport and a complementary Landmarks city pack, offering simmers an immersive experience in Detroit with a completely new cityscape to enjoy in the simulator.

Initially developed for X-Plane, Orbx’s KDTW has been in the works for over two years. The project has since expanded into a parallel development for Microsoft Flight Simulator and is now approaching completion.

Here’s what you can expect from KDTW in MSFS:

  • Custom GSE and Jetways
  • Custom Mesh
  • Custom Animations: Includes toggleable hangar doors and animated shuttles, adding life to the airfield.
  • Detailed Buildings: Every building on the airfield is a custom 1:1 replica.
  • Performance Optimization: Hundreds of hours spent refining details to ensure high fidelity without compromising performance.
  • Seasonal Effects: Realistic snow piles and custom weather maps for accurate water and snow accumulation.
  • Full Terminal Interiors: 1:1 terminal interiors, including detailed models of hangars for Spirit, Endeavor, Signature, and SkyWest.

Detroit Metropolitan Airport is a major international hub. Serving millions of passengers annually, KDTW features six runways and two main terminals: the expansive McNamara Terminal and the efficient North Terminal. Known for its state-of-the-art facilities and high rankings in on-time performance, KDTW plays a crucial role in connecting Detroit to the world.

To complement the airport, Orbx has also developed the Landmarks Detroit City Pack for MSFS, which will be released first, followed by the airport. This pack includes:

  • Over 52 custom buildings and structures.
  • Detailed representation of the waterfront and industrial areas along the Detroit River.
  • A large amount of highly detailed generic models replace the city’s photogrammetry data, including models for cranes, chimneys, vehicles, structures, and much more.
  • Animated Detroit People Mover on the raised tracks through the city’s downtown.
  • Emissive textures on all buildings for dazzling nighttime flying across the city
