MSFS Sim Update 15 slated for release on May 23rd

An updated roadmap for Microsoft Flight Simulator lays out what's coming over the next couple of months.

Update, May 23rd – As predicted, Sim Update 15 is out now!

Is it finally happening? Is Sim Update 15 (SU15) ready to go for Microsoft Flight Simulator? Based on the latest updates from the Asobo/Microsoft team, it looks like this long-awaited major update – the last one before they shift focus to MSFS 2024 – is finally set for release after a series of delays!

The most recent news from Microsoft and Asobo Studio indicates that the current beta version of SU15 (v1.37.18.0) is likely the final one unless any major issues pop up. The March 2024 GDK introduced in v1.37.15.0 had been causing stuttering and freezing issues on Xbox. Since a fix wasn’t ready, they reverted to the previous GDK, paving the way for the final release of SU15 within a few days.

Backing this timeline is the newly updated development roadmap, revealed in the latest weekly update from the team. According to this roadmap, SU15 is set to launch on May 23rd and also includes dates for exciting new content releases. Let’s take a closer look!

MSFS roadmap summer 2024
  • May 23, 2024: Alongside SU15, users will get access to the iniBuilds A320neo.
  • May 28, 2024: Get ready for City Update 07: European Cities II and Local Legend 16: Short Skyvan. This update will bring new photogrammetry for cities like Barcelona, Madrid, Nice, Monte Carlo, Porto, and Stockholm. The Short Skyvan, developed by iniBuilds, is also set to launch on this date!
  • June 6, 2024: Famous Flyer 10 will be released. Details are sparse, but Carenado may be involved as they have been very silent and have regularly partnered with Microsoft and Asobo on the Famous Flyers series.
  • June 22, 2024: Coinciding with FSExpo 2024 in Las Vegas, this update will include City Update 08 and Local Legend 17. More details will likely be unveiled during the expo.
  • July 2024: A busy month with the releases of City Update 09, Local Legend 18, World Update 17, and Local Legend 19, none of which has been formally announced yet.

With Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 expected to drop later this year, likely in Q4, it’s great to see that Microsoft and Asobo are still committed to keeping the current platform fresh and engaging. Even though Sim Update 15 (SU15) will be the last major update for this year, simmers can look forward to a variety of new content that will keep them engaged and excited.
