The home of the Shuttleworth Collection of vintage aircraft.

Burning Blue Design has released today their latest airport for MSFS. This time, the team brings us a digital recreation of EGTH Old Warden Aerodrome, a site of significant historical importance in the United Kingdom’s aviation history.

Located in Bedfordshire, EGTH was originally established in 1932 as a private airfield for the Shuttleworth family and later served as a strategic base during World War II for the Royal Air Force pilot training programs.

In the post-war era, Old Warden transitioned into a focal point for vintage aviation enthusiasts, primarily due to its association with the Shuttleworth Collection. This collection, known for its extensive array of restored early-flight era aircraft, has made Old Warden a key location for airshows and educational events showcasing aviation history.

This digital rendition of Old Warden by Burning Blue Design for Microsoft Flight Simulator is the result of thorough on-site research and aims to offer an accurate representation of the aerodrome as it stands today. The scenery includes over 240 custom-designed 3D objects with detailed PBR textures, reflecting the current layout, runways, taxiways, and structures such as the café and control tower.

Key features include:

  • Detailed models of real-life static aircraft from the Shuttleworth Collection, including historically significant planes such as the Blériot XI, Avro 504K, and Supermarine Spitfire.
  • Animated features like spectators, hangar doors, and flag movements, alongside a fully modeled Shuttleworth estate, encompassing the House, College, Swiss Garden, and Home Farm.
  • Compatibility with dynamic weather conditions and full night lighting, enhanced by high-resolution ground textures.

This project not only preserves the legacy of Old Warden Aerodrome but also makes it accessible to a global audience via the virtual world of Microsoft Flight Simulator. It’s another beautifully detailed airfield from Burning Blue Design, which continues to expand its already impressive airport collection for the platform!

Burning Blue Design’s EGTH Old Warden Aerodrome is available now for £14.95.
