The Twin Otter from Aerosoft will come in a wide variety of configurations, looks almost ready to release

We have been keeping our eyes on the development of Aerosoft’s Twin Otter, which has thankfully been laid out for us to see on the studio’s forums. Mathijs Kok continues to share some beautiful images of the aircraft in Flight Simulator, and this week provided a few more details about the different configurations that will be available for the Twin Otter.

The latest images continue to show the Twin Otter’s detail both in the exterior and interior, especially in the version with floats. As a utility aircraft, the Twin Otter is usually seen with signs of wear and dirt, and Aerosoft’s developers are creating just that with their product. The dirty floats that we can see in the images fit the aircraft perfectly!

We also got another glimpse into the Otter’s interior, showing the seats in the cabin (nicely detailed, but not too much to hurt performance), and also a shot of a fuse panel in the cockpit and the overhead panel. Everything is looking great, as it should, raising our hopes for a release in the near future.

In a slightly different topic, Mathijs also revealed all the different configurations that the Twin Otter will be available in. There are effectively two variants of the aircraft coming, the DHC-6 Series 100 and the 300. Each one of these will have a variety of different options, as follows:

DHC-6 Series 100

  • with floats
  • a passenger version with wheels
  • a cargo version with wheels

DHC-6 Series 300

  • an amphibian passenger version
  • a passenger version with floats and short nose
  • a passenger version with floats
  • a passenger version with wheels
  • a passenger version with tundra tires
  • a cargo version with skis
  • a cargo version with tundra tires
  • a cargo version with a three or four-blade propeller
  • a parachuter version with wheels

There are quite a lot of options indeed, an absolute testament to the Twin Otter’s versatility and go-anywhere capabilities!

We are still waiting for a more accurate estimate for the release of this highly anticipated new aircraft from Aerosoft, but things seem to be moving along just fine. It’s an almost absolute certainty that it will come out this year, but stay tuned to know more about the aircraft development and any further news about the launch for Flight Simulator.

In the meantime, check the previous reports on the Twin Otter development, where you can see how the cockpit is looking, or take a closer look into the amphibian version, among others.
