Following its earlier release for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, Parallel 42 has now released ChasePlane for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024!
ChasePlane is a third-party camera system that replaces the simulator’s default camera handling, giving simmers more direct control over how views are created, selected, and managed. According to Parallel 42, the MSFS 2024 version builds on the same foundation as the MSFS 2020 release, while taking advantage of the newer simulator’s capabilities.
The add-on supports Internal, External, and World camera modes, allowing users to switch between cockpit views, exterior angles, and fixed airport or world cameras. Users can create an unlimited number of custom views across all modes, removing the default simulator limitation of ten views per aircraft.
Parallel 42 states that ChasePlane works with all vehicle types supported by the simulator, including aircraft, helicopters, gliders, and ground vehicles, without requiring aircraft-specific code or updates when new add-ons are installed.
Among the included features is Tower Cam, which provides access to more than 3,500 control tower locations worldwide. This view places the camera at the nearest tower to observe approaches, departures, and ground movements from a fixed ATC-style perspective. The FlyBy view, returning from earlier flight simulation platforms, places the camera at a fixed point in the world while the aircraft passes through the frame.
ChasePlane also includes a Binoculars mode for temporary zooming, a centered Spot View that keeps the aircraft fixed in the frame, and Smart Views, which allow users to switch to saved views based on the direction they are looking. Smart Views can be used with both mouse input and TrackIR.
Camera motion is driven by a physics-based system that reacts to aircraft movement. Parallel 42 explains that different camera types are available, including a “Human” camera that simulates head movement based on biomechanical models, and fixed Action Cameras that can be mounted to the airframe. Optional gimbal stabilisation can be enabled to keep these views level.
A central element of the product is Cinematics Mode, which automatically cycles through external views during cruise or while on the ground. The developer says this mode can also integrate with GSX, allowing ground operations such as boarding and servicing to be shown through dynamic camera shots.
ChasePlane fully overrides the default camera system in Microsoft Flight Simulator, meaning that camera bindings are managed within the add-on rather than through the simulator’s own control settings. Parallel 42 includes an in-app tutorial to guide users through the initial setup process.
ChasePlane for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is available now for PC at USD 30.00.
