Dortmund Airport has a new third-party rendition for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Salvuz has released a native MSFS 2024 version of EDLW, a full rebuild of their earlier MSFS 2020 rendition, and it arrives just over a year after Aerosoft published its own take on the airport, developed by Pavel Movzer. For an airport of this size, having two competing payware renditions on the market is a luxury few regional German fields enjoy.
According to Salvuz, the airport has been recreated as a fully handcrafted environment built from extensive real-world references and up-to-date airport information. The developer says attention was given to every area of the field, from the terminal building and control tower to the apron infrastructure, landside areas, lighting, and custom ground textures.
The feature list covers the essentials you’d expect from a modern payware airport: a highly detailed terminal with modelled interiors, custom jetways, an up-to-date airport layout, custom ground markings and airport lighting, realistic apron, taxiway and runway textures, and optimized LODs for performance. A GSX profile is included, which has become close to mandatory for airports serving airliner traffic.
As for the airport itself, EDLW sits about ten kilometers east of Dortmund in North Rhine-Westphalia and handles a steady flow of European low-cost traffic, with Wizz Air as the dominant operator alongside the likes of Eurowings and Ryanair. It’s a single-runway, compact-terminal kind of airport, which makes it ideal for short-haul flying without the performance cost of a major hub. If you fly A320neo or 737 low-cost schedules around Europe, Dortmund slots naturally into your network.
