When Carenado first teased the Do 228 a couple of weeks ago, we only got to see the exterior of the aircraft. On a rugged STOL twin with no native payware version in Microsoft Flight Simulator, the panel is where most of the character sits, and that initial teaser kept it out of view. But, this week, a fresh batch of preview screenshots from Carenado reveal not only the cockpit’s analog gauges but also a few glimpses into the different cabin configurations.
The cockpit shots are perhaps the most interesting part. The previews show a panel built around traditional round-dial instruments rather than a glass setup, with Bendix King avionics visible in the close-ups and a Garmin GPS unit fitted on the right side of the panel. There is the wear-and-tear texturing Carenado is well known for, from chipped paint on the control yokes to a scuffed, slightly grimy instrument panel.
Smaller details are legible too, including the gear limit and tire limit placards and the digital RPM readouts that sit alongside the analog gauges.
The cabin gets its first look as well. One interior shot faces forward down the aisle toward the flight deck, showing rows of passenger seats and the open view into the cockpit that the Do 228’s boxy fuselage allows. Another preview captures the rear door with quilted insulation panelling and a yellow interior lining, the kind of utilitarian finish that suits the type’s working-aircraft background.
Carenado has also shown the aircraft in a range of liveries that reflect its real-world operators. There is a clean civilian scheme in white with a red and black cheatline, an olive green army paint, and a grey winter-style camouflage with German military markings.
Plenty is still open. The developer has not announced a price, a release date, or the depth of the systems and avionics. For reference, Carenado’s recent MSFS 2024 releases have generally sat between roughly $15 and $25, though nothing is confirmed for the Do 228. Only an MSFS 2024 version has been mentioned so far, even if Carenado has often followed its 2024 titles with MSFS 2020 versions later on.
