There’s no shortage of career add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator at this point. Beyond the built-in system, we’ve covered NeoFly, Pilops, Fly The Line, OnAir, and this is just to name a few. Each of these carves out its own niche. But a new entry on Flightsim.to is swinging for something considerably bigger in scope, and it launched just days ago in open beta.
It’s called Clear2Land, and it’s free.
Clear2Land describes itself as a “comprehensive, multi-platform career engine” for both Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020 and 2024) and X-Plane 12. At first glance, the feature list reads more like a pitch for a standalone game than a flight sim companion app. But looking through the screenshots and the changelog, the ambition here is clearly real.
From student to airline operator, and everything in between
The core career loop follows a familiar path: you start as a student pilot and work your way up through PPL, CPL, and ATPL certifications. That progression, however, is backed by a fairly involved system. The developer says Clear2Land requires you to sit timed 60-minute written exams covering aerodynamics, regulations, and emergency procedures, and also tracks FAA medical certification with a 24-month renewal cycle and crew fatigue/rest limits.
Flight tracking goes beyond a simple logbook. The app logs Hobbs time, block time, and flight time simultaneously, and includes a real-time HUD with G-force readouts, vertical speed, and automatic flight phase detection from taxi through to landing. After each flight, you get a touchdown report with hard landing detection and time-series metric charts.
The passenger simulation is where things get genuinely interesting. According to the developer, Clear2Land includes a “Passenger Anxiety Engine” that has passengers reacting in real time to your bank angle, pitch, and turbulence. You can monitor cabin comfort through a dedicated widget, make PA announcements, and manage seatbelt signs. Cargo has its own layer too: fragile and hazmat loads require smooth handling, and extreme G-forces will reportedly damage cargo and reduce your payout.
An economy with real teeth
Beyond flying, Clear2Land lets you purchase and run FBOs, hire AI pilots to fly passive routes, manage fuel logistics, and deal with a credit scoring system that runs from 300 to 850. The developer says there’s even a Chapter 11/13 bankruptcy system built in, alongside dynamic interest rates and aircraft financing.
Aircraft maintenance is modeled with 100-hour and annual inspection requirements. The job board, visible in the screenshots, shows a wide range of contract types including charter, VIP, cargo, and ferry flights, with detailed earnings breakdowns that factor in on-time bonuses and smooth landing pay.
One of the more unusual features is the labor union system. You read that right. The developer says you can negotiate Collective Bargaining Agreements with your AI pilots and mechanics, and that failing to do so risks triggering strikes. There are also more than 20 AI competitor airlines that reportedly react to your market share and reputation.
A living world connected to real data
If you thought that already sounds crazy enough for a career add-on, there’s more! Clear2Land integrates real-world disaster data from GDACS and the National Hurricane Center, with the developer saying that active hurricanes and storms can impact your route planning in-game. The app also pulls in VATSIM live traffic on its map view, and supports SimBrief for flight planning, LittleNavMap (which is listed as a requirement for airport data accuracy), and GSX for boarding and deboarding sync.
The VATSIM integration shown in the screenshots shows live aircraft positions across Europe with ATC controller info, turning the map into a genuinely useful situational awareness tool during sessions.
Early days, but moving fast
Clear2Land launched on Flightsim.to just a few days days ago as version 0.12.0, and has already reached version 0.16.0 with a rapid string of updates. The most recent release added multilanguage support (Spanish, French, and German), an aircraft library with filtering, experimental mechanical failure support for a growing list of third-party aircraft including the FlyByWire A380, Headwind A330-900, IniBuilds A300, and several others, plus a welcome tour tutorial and various bug fixes.
It’s free to download, and a Discord server is available for support and bug reports, which the developer is actively encouraging at this early stage.
Clear2Land is clearly aiming high with this piece of software, offering a complex and very comprehensive take on the other side of virtual aviation beyond flying. Whether it can hold up to sustained use and grow its feature set through early access is the real test, but as a free starting point, there’s a lot here that’s hard to ignore for anyone who’s been looking for deeper structure than what MSFS 2024’s built-in Career Mode currently provides.
