Orbx is heading west with its newest airport project for Microsoft Flight Simulator: YPPH Perth International Airport, coming soon for both MSFS 2020 and 2024. The developer calls this a “beautifully detailed” rendition of Western Australia’s busiest aviation hub, and it’s set to be another strong entry in Orbx’s long-running series of Australian airports.
Perth sits on Australia’s far western edge, facing the Indian Ocean and serving as the country’s western gateway. Handling more than 17 million passengers each year, the airport connects Western Australia to the eastern states and to major destinations across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. It’s an airport that sees regular movements of A380s and Dreamliners from Emirates, Qantas, and Singapore Airlines, alongside a steady rhythm of domestic traffic from 737s and A320s.

Perth also powers the FIFO operations that fuel Western Australia’s mining industry. Airlines like Network Aviation, Cobham, and Alliance maintain fleets of Fokker 100s, E190s, and A320s that connect Perth with remote airstrips and mining towns scattered across the state. Orbx’s version recreates that side of the airport in detail, including the busy FIFO and General Aviation aprons that see constant short-haul movement.
Visually, Orbx says simmers can expect a completely updated layout reflecting June 2025 airport changes, including the expanded T1 International Terminal and the city’s striking Skybridge, which links the terminal with nearby facilities. The scenery features PBR materials, dynamic lighting, and custom ground textures with realistic wear, markings, and weathering. Key interiors such as lounges and check-in halls have also been modelled to enhance the sense of scale and authenticity without unnecessary performance cost.
In typical Orbx fashion, Perth has been built with an eye for both realism and performance. The airport uses high-resolution aerial imagery for terrain accuracy, custom jetways and airside clutter, and static aircraft to bring life to the apron. Everything has been optimised to work seamlessly across both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024.
With beta testing already underway, a release doesn’t appear far off. For Orbx, this project marks a return to its roots, recreating Australia’s aviation gateways with the level of fidelity that made the company’s name in flight simulation years ago.
From Sydney to Brisbane and Melbourne, Orbx has spent years crafting Australia’s airports in remarkable detail, and Perth will soon join that collection. Stay tuned!
