Following the success of GAmod 2024, which expanded general aviation AI activity across the world, Corsten’s Hangar is back with a new freeware mod for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The new MilitaryMod 2024 focuses on military aviation, introducing worldwide AI operations featuring a range of well-known aircraft and even static aircraft carriers.
According to the developer, MilitaryMod 2024 aims to enhance the military flying experience in MSFS by injecting AI traffic at airbases and over key regions. The mod operates using the simulator’s AI Offline traffic mode, adding both VFR and IFR flight plans for AI-controlled aircraft. VFR flights typically perform circuits around local airbases, while IFR missions operate between nearby bases. Helicopters perform touch-and-go manoeuvres rather than full stops.
A variety of aircraft and operations
The package includes a diverse fleet of military aircraft such as the F/A-18, F-16, F-35, Rafale M, E-2D Hawkeye, Antonov An-12, H135, and the MQ-9 Reaper. Several of these models come from well-known freeware creators including FlightSimSquadron, Alpha60, IndiaFoxtEcho, and others.
To work as intended, the add-on also relies on a few additional freeware aircraft that must be downloaded separately. These include the C-17 Globemaster III, KC-135R Stratotanker, and E-3 Sentry, all developed by Delta Simulations, along with the HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier by ANSmedia.
Carriers at sea and around key regions
Another cool feature of MilitaryMod 2024 is the inclusion of both static and moving aircraft carriers. Four static HMS Queen Elizabeth carriers are placed at:
- near RAF Marham, east of Norwich
- the Persian Gulf, northeast of Doha
- near RAF Valley, south of EGOV
- north of the Cayman Islands, close to MWCR
In addition, the developer says there are thousands of moving carriers spread across the world’s oceans. Perhaps a bit unrealistic, to say the least… but this way you should have no problem finding a carrier, especially because these can also be located using Little Navmap.
Installation and setup
As with GAmod, MilitaryMod 2024 requires users to disable default AI traffic and models in the simulator. Corsten provides a small utility called “One-Click Content Disabler” to make this step easier. The mod’s installation involves copying several folders into the Community directory and running a script that modifies Delta Simulations’ aircraft folders to make them compatible with the mod’s flight plans.
Users are advised not to run other AI traffic packages alongside MilitaryMod 2024, as this can lead to misplaced aircraft due to current model-matching limitations in MSFS 2024.
Availability
MilitaryMod 2024 is available now as freeware on flightsim.to, with installation instructions and download links for the required aircraft included in the package description.
