If you’ve ever searched for a cheap flight out for “Frankfurt” and wondered why your ticket sent you 120 kilometers into the German countryside, then this new airport release may be familiar. M’M Simulations has just launched Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (EDFH) for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024, a scenery that spotlights Germany’s other Frankfurt airport, the one with cows in nearby fields and 24-hour cargo ops.
Once a Cold War U.S. Air Force base, Frankfurt-Hahn has since reinvented itself as a mix of low-cost airline base and cargo stronghold. For Ryanair, Hahn was once a cornerstone of its early expansion into continental Europe. For freight carriers, it remains an alternative to Frankfurt am Main, thanks to its long 3,800-meter runway, no night curfew, and plenty of space to handle large cargo aircraft.
M’M Simulations’ new rendition of Hahn tries to capture this utilitarian spirit in high fidelity. The developer says the package includes handcrafted terrain, updated satellite imagery, and fully integrated ILS and navaids for real-world accuracy. You’ll also find detailed 3D models of the terminal, control tower, and cargo facilities, along with animated ground vehicles and personnel. The custom night lighting and sloped terrain are said to reflect the airfield’s real-world elevation and layout quirks.
M’M Simulations says this rendition of Hahn is compatible with both MSFS 2020 and 2024, and it’s available now through Contrail for €20.89.
For simmers looking to simulate short Ryanair hops across Europe or long-haul cargo operations, Frankfurt-Hahn offers a unique opportunity to explore a quieter airport than Frankfurt’s main hub, but one no less relevant to Germany’s air transport network.
