Flying over Wyoming in Microsoft Flight Simulator, the jagged peaks of the Tetons are hard to miss. Down in the ground, in real life, you’ll find crowds at the boat docks, cars filling trailhead lots, and photographers staking out sunrise shots at the Moulton Barn. In default MSFS, you’ll find… none of that. BaySim’s new Grand Teton Extended scenery for MSFS 2024 sets out to fix that by adding people, landmarks, and the little details that make the park recognizable.
Grand Teton National Park is one of the most visited in the U.S., drawing close to three million people a year. For simmers, though, it’s a fly-over destination rather than a place worth exploring up close. BaySim is attempting to change that by filling in what the default sim leaves empty, including docks, parking lots, visitor centers, and even the crowds that gather around them.
The package includes more than 100 custom objects and over 20 handcrafted landmarks, ranging from small trailhead parking areas to recognizable icons like the Chapel of the Transfiguration and the Moulton Barn, both popular real-world photography spots. Jenny Lake itself has been fleshed out with detailed piers, boats, ferries, and modeled visitor facilities. Even the bridges across Cottonwood Creek are present.
BaySim also extended the coverage well beyond Jenny Lake. Turnouts, overlooks, and trailheads such as Snake River Overlook, Taggart Lake Trailhead, and the Laurance Rockefeller Preserve are all represented, complete with visitors and vehicles.
For simmers, the obvious way to experience this scenery is to land at nearby Jackson Hole Airport (KJAC) and take a VFR hop into the park. But with the sheer amount of ground detail included, there’s also something to be said for simply loading up a drone camera and taking a slow tour around the lakes, lodges, and mountain views.
BaySim’s Grand Teton Extended for MSFS 2024 is now available on SimMarket for just around $10 USD.
