Sim Update 3 is here: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 gets a huge round of fixes and improvements

One of the standout additions in Sim Update 3 is the ability to download packages locally.

And here it is! After what felt like an endless beta cycle (more than 20 builds, if you were counting), Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has finally received its third major update. Sim Update 3 is here, bringing with it a massive list of changes and fixes across nearly every corner of the sim.

One of the standout additions in Sim Update 3 (version 1.5.27.0) is the ability to locally download packages from the FS Library. Since MSFS 2024 launched in 2024, simmers have been juggling add-ons, community folders, and cloud-linked content. This new feature should make life a bit easier by allowing players to handle library content directly on their machine, reducing load times and dependency on constant server calls.

On the presentation side, the developers have polished the user interface with subtle fade-in animations across the Marketplace, Profile, Challenges, and Career menus.

Visual settings also got some attention. A new passive aircraft quality option on PC lets players fine-tune how parked aircraft are displayed at airports, while Xbox users now have graphic controls for fauna density, ground vehicles, and crowd levels.

Stability and performance

The real muscle of SU3 is in stability and performance. According to the release notes, the team has:

  • Reduced VRAM usage in several areas, including company name textures.
  • Improved boot and loading times.
  • Fixed Xbox crashes tied to booting with too many packages or resuming from suspension.
  • Patched VR issues, duplicated cockpit elements, and WASM texture corruption.
  • Optimized avatar thumbnails and cabin service loading.

SU3 doesn’t add new aircraft or missions, but it strengthens the foundation of MSFS 2024 as much as Sim Update 1 and 2 did before it. Stability, performance, and quality-of-life changes may not be the loudest features, but they’re the ones that make the simulator feel like a sturdier platform — one that’s better prepared for the add-ons and expansions to come.
