PMDG is back at hinting the Boeing 777X for Microsoft Flight Simulator. In the most recent development update captured on video (because the written version doesn’t mention this important tidbit), PMDG CEO Robert Randazzo has mentioned the Boeing 777X as a potential future project for Microsoft Flight Simulator. While there is no official confirmation of development, Randazzo acknowledged ongoing discussions with Boeing regarding the aircraft, suggesting that the 777X is under consideration for PMDG’s long-term roadmap:
“There might be a 777X coming at some point in the future. We’re still talking with Boeing about that.”
This is one of the most direct reference to the 777X from PMDG, following a more cryptic hint late last year. In an October 2024 development post, Randazzo alluded to a “BIG X FACTOR” influencing a future PMDG project, which at the time was widely interpreted as a reference to the 777X.
While Randazzo doesn’t acknowledge that any kind of formal development is underway, the reference to conversations with Boeing is a noteworthy development. PMDG has historically been careful not to mention aircraft unless they are seriously being considered. Even a brief statement of this nature implies the aircraft is on PMDG’s internal radar, contingent on licensing and scheduling.
PMDG’s current priorities
PMDG is currently finalizing the release of the 777-200LR for Microsoft Flight Simulator, now in beta and expected in early July. The developer is also preparing updates for the full 777 fleet and working on migrating the 737NG product line to MSFS 2024, including visual and sound enhancements, feature upgrades, and improved compatibility with the new platform. The 747 remains in development, with more details expected following FlightSimExpo 2025, which takes place next weekend in Providence, Rhode Island.
As for the 737 MAX, it’s still on hold, and is reportedly paused due to an unrelated enterprise project requiring development isolation. Its release remains on the horizon but is unlikely to arrive before the 737 and 747 projects are completed.
The Boeing 777X would be another major addition to the Microsoft Flight Simulator ecosystem, bringing a modern long-haul airliner to the platform. With PMDG’s proven relationship with Boeing and expertise in simulating complex airliners, the studio is well-positioned to deliver such a product — assuming licensing and resource allocation align.
Until then, the mention of the 777X should be taken as a signal of intent, not a confirmation of development. As always, PMDG’s roadmap will evolve with technical requirements, business considerations, and feedback from the community. But for those tracking future developments, this is the clearest indication yet that the 777X is a possibility.
