Taog’s Hangar unveils OH-6A Cayuse and Hughes 500C for MSFS 2024

Taog’s Hangar has been at the forefront of helicopter development for Microsoft Flight Simulator, with the Huey and the Alouette III standing out as some of the best rotorcraft experiences available in the sim. Now, the developer is back in the cockpit with a new helicopter project for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. This time, they’re bringing us the OH-6A Cayuse and its civilian sibling, the Hughes 500C. Yes, both of them!
Announced with a reveal trailer, a batch of fresh images, and a few key details, this project promises to deliver two distinct versions of the iconic Hughes light helicopter family. Military and civilian, side by side, each with its own personality, but built with the same focus on realism and detail Taog’s Hangar is becoming known for.
On one side, you have the OH-6A Cayuse, a light observation helicopter that gained fame during the Vietnam War. Compact, agile, and notoriously hard to hit, the Cayuse is affectionately known as the “Loach” by those who flew it.
On the other, the Hughes 500C, a direct evolution of the same design, repurposed for civilian life. Whether it’s law enforcement, private operators, or utility work, the 500C carries the same DNA but trades combat gear for versatility in the civilian skies.
According to Taog’s Hangar, this add-on won’t lock you into a single mission profile. The helicopter will support a wide array of modular attachments, letting users kit it out for different scenarios—be it rescue missions, patrol flights, or just scenic VFR tours at a leisurely pace. Very much like they did with the Alouette III, whose modularity allows for extensive customization options.
An extensive collection of custom liveries will also be included, ensuring your virtual hangar can reflect a variety of operators, both military and civilian.
Beyond the visuals, Taog’s Hangar says the OH-6A / Hughes 500C package will feature authentic flight dynamics, immersive soundscapes, and the sort of attention to detail that MSFS rotorheads will immediately appreciate.
The reveal trailer offers a first look at the in-sim models, showcasing the compact, aerodynamic fuselage, crisp textures, highly detailed cockpit environments, and the sort of operational profiles you can expect to explore with the package.
As for when we can expect to get our hands on it, Taog’s Hangar is aiming for a release in Q2 2025, which places the launch sometime between now and the end of June.
