Boeing 787-9 from Horizon Simulations now compatible with MSFS 2024

If you’ve been flying Horizon Simulations’ freeware Boeing 787-9 mod, you’ve probably wondered when it’d be compatible with MSFS 2024. Well, there’s good news. Horizon Simulations confirmed a few days ago that their 787-9 is now fully compatible with MSFS 2024, thanks to the freshly released Version 1.2.2.
This latest update addresses a quirky issue where the speedbrakes could behave unpredictably on landing, a problem that occasionally led to some surprising behavior during rollout. Alongside this fix, Horizon has also brought its custom system modifications into MSFS 2024, ensuring that the aircraft’s systems behave as intended in the new environment.
Version 1.2.2 is now available through Orbx Central and the Headwind Simulations installer.
To get the Horizon 787-9 flying properly in MSFS 2024, there’s an important step to remember: you must own the Premium Deluxe Edition of MSFS 2020 and make sure the default Boeing 787-10 from that package is installed and enabled inside your MSFS 2024 Marketplace Library. Horizon’s 787-9 builds upon Asobo’s original 787-10 model, so this is a required prerequisite.

Looking ahead, Horizon Simulations shared some details about their longer-term plans. While the current version is compatible across both MSFS 2020 and 2024, a fully native MSFS 2024 version is in the works and will come after the release of the much-anticipated Version 2 of their 787-9. The developers say this approach helps maintain compatibility for users across both platforms and eases the process for livery creators, who would otherwise need to rework their files separately for each simulator.
For now, Horizon’s focus remains on completing V2, which promises significant improvements across the board. There’s no firm release date yet, but the team says that development is progressing steadily, with the goal of delivering a polished product from the start.
