Microsoft has just released City Update 10: United States I for Microsoft Flight Simulator, giving simmers another good excuse to revisit some of the country’s most recognizable cities, this time with a fresh coat of high-fidelity data.
This new update, available for free to all MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 users, covers Dallas, Fort Worth, Denver, San Francisco, and Honolulu, using new aerial imagery, elevation models, and updated TIN surface texturing. Let’s take a look at what this update brings!
Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas
It’s impossible to separate these two cities—they’re part of the same massive Metroplex after all. Once railway outposts for Texas’ booming cotton and livestock trades, DFW has grown into a core hub for industries ranging from finance to defense. In the sim, expect to spot Fountain Place, 777 Main Street, and the ever-familiar Reunion Tower, all standing out in crisp detail.
Denver, Colorado
Flying into Denver means navigating one of the highest major cities in the US. At 5,280 feet, the “Mile High City” offers dramatic contrasts between the towering Republic Plaza, modern high-rises like 1144 Fifteenth, and the rugged backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. City Update 10 brings it all together with refreshed terrain data and updated textures across the skyline.
San Francisco, California
There’s a reason San Francisco is often used as the cinematic go-to for iconic establishing shots. With this update, MSFS simmers can now get an improved look at the Golden Gate Bridge, the Transamerica Pyramid, Alcatraz, and the complex network of bridges over the bay. If you haven’t flown the approach into KSFO lately, this might be the time.
Honolulu, Hawaii
Honolulu has always been a fan favorite in the sim, thanks to its tropical setting and dramatic landscape. But it should now be even better represented, with refined coastal geometry, sharper downtown buildings, and a more lifelike appearance of landmarks like Diamond Head, the Koʻolau Range, and the city’s shimmering shoreline.
How to get it
City Update 10 is available now through the in-sim Marketplace and is free for all MSFS users. Just make sure your simulator is up to date, search for “City Update 10” in the Marketplace, and download the package. You’ll need to restart the sim to see the changes.
