EYEVIONICS Launches Early Access: A New App for Microsoft Flight Simulator Pilots

A glass-cockpit app that offers simmers an alternative to physical cockpit hardware.

EYEVIONICS has announced the launch of an Early Access program for its namesake app. EYEVIONICS, compatible with iOS and Android devices, brings glass-cockpit functionality on these devices to Microsoft Flight Simulator users and aims to provide essential flight information and controls through a simple, accessible interface.

EYEVIONICS is a glass-cockpit app that offers flight sim users an alternative to physical cockpit hardware. It features the key components of a traditional EFIS (Electronic Flight Information System), including a Primary Flight Display (PFD) and Multifunction Display (MFD). These are delivered in a customizable format on mobile devices, offering control over aircraft systems like the autopilot, radios, and engine monitoring.

If you’ve got an extra tablet or smartphone lying around, EYEVIONICS offers an interesting opportunity to bring it into your flight simulation setup!

Here are some of the main features:

  • PFD and MFD: Users can access these critical flight displays directly from their tablets or smartphones. Both displays include the usual flight data, such as altitude, speed, and heading, essential for navigating simulated aircraft.
  • Autopilot Control: The app includes a full autopilot control panel, allowing for adjustments to key parameters like altitude and heading without switching back to the simulator screen.
  • Radio and Transponder Stack: EYEVIONICS enables users to control communications and navigation radios as well as the transponder directly from the app.
  • Universal Engine Information Panel: The app provides monitoring of engine parameters, adaptable to various aircraft engine types (turbine, piston, or electric).
  • Optional 3D Terrain and Topographic Imagery: These features, available through the app’s subscription service (EYEVIONICS Aviator), provide enhanced situational awareness with additional terrain data and topographic imagery integrated into the PFD and MFD.
  • Flight Plan Panel (Beta): Currently in beta testing, the flight plan panel allows users to view and edit flight plans, with more advanced functionality expected as the app develops.

The app supports multiple devices, allowing flight simmers to spread their virtual cockpit displays across different screens. This means users can utilize separate tablets or smartphones for various cockpit instruments, offering a modular approach to home cockpit building. However, access to 3D terrain and topographic imagery is limited to two devices in the Aviator subscription.

EYEVIONICS’ Early Access phase invites users to test the app and provide feedback. This program allows participants to influence the development of the app as it progresses toward its final version. The developers promise that regular updates will be provided.

The service is available in two versions, offering users flexibility depending on their needs:

  • EYEVIONICS Economy: This version includes the core PFD and MFD functionalities in 2D, along with autopilot, radio, and engine monitoring. It requires a one-time purchase of the EYEVIONICS Link add-on (€19.99), which connects the app to MSFS.
  • EYEVIONICS Aviator: This is a subscription-based version (€4.99 per month) that includes additional features such as 3D terrain, topographic imagery, and flight path prediction. The subscription also unlocks advanced situational awareness tools and is designed for users who want more comprehensive functionality.
