Eager to explore new European cities in Microsoft Flight Simulator, or simply looking for a high-quality scenery update of your hometown or a city you love? Today may be your lucky day. The MSFS team has released City Update 7: European Cities II, introducing major upgrades to some of the continent’s most stunning cities.

This is the 7th entry in the City Updates series and the 2nd dedicated to an assortment of European cities. It enhances several locations across Europe with detailed photogrammetry and other improvements, significantly enriching the scenery and offering simmers a more immersive and realistic experience.

As usual, these updates use advanced techniques like triangulated irregular network (TIN) surface modeling and the latest geographic information from Bing Maps and Vexcel Imaging. The goal is to provide simmers with highly detailed and accurate representations of these cities, enhancing the overall flight simulation experience.

If you’re planning to fly between all of them in one go, be prepared for a journey! These cities are scattered across Europe, from Porto, Madrid, and Barcelona in the south to Stockholm in the north. While Stockholm might feel a bit out of place among these southern cities, it adds to the variety and richness of the update.

Here’s a quick look at the six stunning new landscapes included in this update:

  • Barcelona, Spain: Known for its rich cultural heritage and stunning architecture, including landmarks like La Sagrada Familia and Park Güell.
  • Madrid, Spain: The Spanish capital with its iconic Royal Palace, the historic Plaza Mayor, and the bustling Gran Via.
  • Nice, France: A Mediterranean gem with beautiful promenades and a picturesque old town.
  • Monte Carlo, Monaco: Famous for its luxury casinos, yachts, and the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix.
  • Porto, Portugal: Renowned for its stately bridges, port wine cellars, and the historic Ribeira district.
  • Stockholm, Sweden: Sweden’s capital, spread across 14 islands, featuring historical sites like the Royal Palace and the Vasa Museum.

Interestingly, the French Riviera seems to be more comprehensively recreated than what’s mentioned in the release notes, with not only the cities of Nice and Monaco but also Menton near the Italian border. This coast is absolutely gorgeous, and the prospect of seeing these lovely towns and cities as they are in the real world from the sky in Microsoft Flight Simulator is truly enticing.

To further enrich this area in MSFS, you can check out a pack of airfields from FrenchVFR that adds more than 30 custom airfields in the French Riviera!

City Update 7: European Cities II is available now for free to all Microsoft Flight Simulator users. To access the update, ensure your simulator is running the latest version, download the update from the in-sim marketplace, and enjoy exploring the newly enhanced cities!
