XWind releases Chicago’s Rockford Airport for MSFS, the world’s fastest-growing cargo airport

Cargo Pilots have a special reason to be happy today in Microsoft Flight Simulator, as we see the release of an interesting new cargo hub in the United States. XWind and iniBuilds have released the world’s fastest-growing cargo airport, KRFD Chicago Rockford Airport, located in the state of Illinois.

Located approximately 85 miles northwest of Chicago, Rockford serves as a convenient alternative to the busier O’Hare and Midway airports, particularly for cargo operations and budget passenger services. Its location has made it a strategic hub for logistics and transportation companies.

Rockford has carved out a niche as a significant cargo hub, experiencing rapid growth in freight volume over the years. It hosts operations for major freight companies, including UPS, which has a significant presence at the airport. The efficiency and capacity of its cargo facilities have attracted various operators, contributing to its reputation as a key logistics center.

Chicago Rockford Airport comes alive in MSFS with an array of custom-designed elements. According to XWind, who developed this scenery, the virtual rendition of the airport features the most current 2024 layout, PBR models, and 4K textures that promise to bring a new level of detail and realism to this airport.

KRFD may be a fast-growing cargo hub, but there are also passenger services at this airport. Allegiant Air is the main airline serving Rockford Airport, offering connecting opportunities to domestic destinations such as Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando, and more.

In terms of functionality and aesthetics, XWind has not held back. The package includes:

  • Custom Imagery
  • Custom ground polygon
  • Highly detailed terminal interior
  • PBR models and 4k textures
  • Detailed models
  • Accurate Dynamic Lighting
  • LOD optimized for all models to achieve balanced performance
