What better way to escape the winter in the northern hemisphere than to travel to the tropics? Today, the Microsoft Flight Simulator team is offering users a chance to escape the cold and explore the stunning region of the Caribbean, the focus of the latest World Update that has now become available for all users of the platform.

The Caribbean, a region known for its diverse and picturesque islands, is the latest addition to Microsoft Flight Simulator’s expansive global scenery. World Update XVI: Caribbean covers a wide array of destinations including Antigua, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos, and the United States Virgin Islands. This update allows users to experience the unique landscapes and cultural richness of these islands.

The update introduces 104 Points of Interest (POIs), offering simmers a chance to discover landmarks such as the Nassau Harbor Lighthouse in the Bahamas, Colbeck Castle in Jamaica, Faro De Pampatar in Puerto Rico, and the Red House in Trinidad & Tobago.

In addition, Gaya Simulations has hand-crafted seven airports for this update, including Jamaica’s Sangster International Airport, Haiti’s Antoine-Simon Airport, and more.

World Update XVI: Caribbean is not just about new locations; it also includes nine new activities to enhance the user experience. These activities comprise three Discovery Flights over Saint Lucia, Saint Martin, and San Juan, Puerto Rico; three Landing Challenges at airports like Gregorio Luperón International and North Eleuthera Airport; and three Bush Trips that showcase the natural beauty of the Caribbean region.

The update is only possible thanks to the integration of geospatial data, achieved through close collaboration with Bing Maps, Maxar, and various Caribbean governmental organizations. This integration includes aerial photographs, satellite data, LIDAR, DEM, and DTM data, ensuring detailed and accurate representation of the Caribbean’s geography and topography.

World Update XVI: Caribbean is available for free for Microsoft Flight Simulator users.
