Xometry Design has unveiled its latest airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The team has created a detailed virtual rendition of Harrisburg International Airport (KMDT) for Microsoft Flight Simulator, bringing Pennsylvania’s third-busiest airport to a much better standard for simmers to enjoy in the simulator.
Harrisburg International Airport, with a history dating back to 1898, has been a vital part of Central Pennsylvania’s aviation landscape. The airport saw its first military planes land just after World War I in 1918 and has since grown to become the third busiest airport in Pennsylvania, both in terms of passenger traffic and cargo shipments, trailing only behind Philadelphia International Airport and Pittsburgh International Airport.
Situated in Middletown, nine miles southeast of Harrisburg, MDT serves as a critical link for South Central Pennsylvania. The airport is a hub for Wiggins Airways and provides flights to numerous destinations, including Charlotte, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, and seasonal routes to places like Myrtle Beach and Nashville.
Harrisburg International also plays a vital role in cargo transport, with major carriers like FedEx Express, UPS Airlines, and DHL Aviation operating from here. Its strategic location near major highways facilitates quick cargo transfers. The airport also plays a military role, housing the Pennsylvania Air National Guard’s 193rd Special Operations Wing, which operates the unique EC-130J Commando Solo aircraft.
Xometry’s virtual version of KMDT for Microsoft Flight Simulator looks excellent in the promotional images and trailer video. It showcases detailed buildings, high-resolution textures, realistic wear and tear, and more.
