Orbx announces KAVX Catalina Airport for MSFS

Orbx is readying a new airport for Flight Simulator, continuing to expand its portfolio in the new sim. After the release of the gorgeous Bella Coola airport last week, the Australian studio has now its eyes set on a rocky island off the coast of Southern California: Catalina Island and its Airport, KAVX.

This new release from Orbx comes from two veteran developers, Tim Harris and Ken Hall, who have developed Catalina Airport for MSFS with completely new buildings, high-resolution PBR textures and even 3D people that help giving the airport that authentic feeling that Orbx is known for.

KAVX has an interesting history, having been built by the Wrigley family, who owned most of the island at the time of its opening in 1941. Initially created by blasting and leveling two hills to form a plateau, the runway was recently renovated, after decades of damage to the asphalt. It now serves general aviation traffic, subject to the payment of a $35 landing fee.

Orbx is offering something more beyond the airport. In Avalon, the main population center in Catalina, you will find a series of landmarks, which includes the marina bay, pier, yacht club and the Casino. So, not only do you have a nice little airport fly in and out, but also a good reason to explore the island.

Typically from Orbx, Catalina Airport should be released in just a few days after this announcement. Stay tuned for a release notice!
